Here is an action plan to use when saving a building that is endangered
You need to have a team of people on the historic preservation board
Each member has a role to fulfill on such as writing proposals, contacting historic preservation advocates like the National Trust for Historic Preservation
1) Start from the final outcome which is to save and restore a building
2) Work backwards to the first step of action to take
3) Have a time frame of when the building will be saved such as 6 months or maybe a year
4) Create milestones of when a certain goal is to be reached
5) Make a list of people who can take part as advocates in the area
such as city council people city community board members, elected officials, business people in the area.,
6) Have weekly or biweekly meetings with people involved in saving structure to find out what actions need to be taken and any updates on actions taken or situations about building in need of saving
7) Contact local historic preservation groups to have building designated a historic landmark so that it's protected against possible demolition and can attract the community to want to save building
8) Find and contact owner of building and negotiate the importance of having building fixed up and restored.
9) Plan an event such as a social gathering or a rally to get people in the surrounding community to see the benefit of saving the building and how it can beautify the neighborhood
